Event Preview: Brassworks Street Brass Carnival & Festival of Horns @ Woolwich Works London; Saturday 21st September 2024
Recorded in a matter of days with her band in Glasgow, the record has captured the award winning songstress in her finest form. We’re regularly booked to perform for weddings and events at The Oak Barn in Kent and Kew Gardens in Richmond. Music enthusiasts will also have the chance to get hands (and lips) on with free tuba workshops throughout the early afternoon, hosted and led by the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO). This talented group of young musicians, inspired by Theon Cross and Steam Down, will guide budding artists through a variety of jazz genres, from bebop to contemporary fusion, offering invaluable experiences for those eager to refine their skills.
The album features 14 powerful, brand-new songs including the singles Higher We Aspire and title track Make Your Mark which were playlisted at BBC Radio 2. Seth was also delighted to be asked in late 2022 to record on Van Morrison’s new album ‘Moving On Skiffle’ which was released in March this year and he collaborated with Public Service Broadcasting. He has previously worked and toured extensively with Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) with his band the Sensational Space Shifters. These performances include The Prince’s Trust “Party in the Park” and the Mandela concerts in Cape Town, Hyde Park, London and Radio City Music Hall, New York. However, with his band is where the songs truly sparkle, aided by a backing troupe of guitarist, drums, bass, and harmonica, the songs harmonise into a spellbinding set that will leave you clamouring for more. Anglo-Irish folk band Flook perform with Mairi McGillivray, a Gaelic singer from Islay, at Fountain Road Hall, Golspie, tonight 7.30pm. The Inverness Military Wives Choir, with musical director Alyn Ross, perform at Dornoch Cathedral tomorrow. Backed by a fantastic swashbuckling big band, Swansea Y3 pupils will have the chance to celebrate their achievements, make music, and feel good. We are also excited to welcome to the band the new sax player Su Robinson. Su has had a wealth of live experience with such legends as Prince Buster, The Specials’ Horace Panters band, Uptown Ska Collective as well as sitting in with The South on the few occasions Gaz Birtles couldn’t make it.

Cardiff-based ‘Slipped Disco’ are a ferocious, 9-piece live act with blasting horn section, hooky vocals and dazzling percussion, layered over the infectious grooves of their classy backline players. Two years later, singers Dave Hemingway and Alison Wheeler, alongside life long members Damon Butcher (keys), Gaz Birtles (sax) and Tony Robinson (trumpet), came out of retirement and formed the 9 piece band, The South. Their funk-fuelled repertoire is wildly eclectic, ranging from New Orleans inspired swing to heavy rock riffs, and since their beginnings in the ratty alleyways of London’s Soho, the band has evolved into a wild groove machine.
